Every Gardener Should Have the Right Gardening Tools

Posted by on December 23, 2011

Every person dreams of having his or her own garden at least once during his or her life. One man might think to himself “I’d like to grow my own vegetables!” Maybe someone else will be dreaming of lavish rose gardens. Whatever your reasons are for starting your own garden and no matter how big you want your garden to be, you are going to need specific tools to finish the job. Just about everything you do in a garden can be done using your hands (and your own personal brute strength). The right gardening tools will save you lots of time and effort. These are a few of the gardening tools that you might use to help you with your gardening tasks.

You need to have a garden rake. A garden rake is different than the rake you will use to gather leaves and larger objects around your front yard in the fall. The garden rake is much shorter and sturdier than the other type of rake and it has teeth that are made out of (usually) steel. If you have projects of varying sizes you want an adjustable width garden rake and not a fixed width garden rake. This saves you a lot of money because you will only have to buy the single rake instead of a bunch of different rakes with different widths. Garden rakes are used to smooth and level out the dirt in your gardens.

Even if you only have a small patch of garden in your yard, a pitchfork is a wonderful tool to have on hand. Pitchforks will do the same things that trowels and spades do but they do it bigger. You can use your pitchfork to turn your soil around, increase the oxygen flow to that soil and move your compost around. As compost breaks down it will need to be turned—this is something that only a pitchfork can do easily and quickly. To keep the compost from losing its value and forming a gross, crusty shell use the pitchfork to turn it often.

You also need a wovel. Gardeners can choose between wovels with short handles and wovels with long handles. Armageddon Paydays wovel is almost like a shovel except for the fact that it has a rounded point. A short handled wovel will help your balance while a long handled wovel does not do this.

Gardeners dig holes with wovels. The wovel will move your soil and you can use it to lift plants without having to worry about accidentally damaging the plant’s root bulb or pulling on its rooting system. Gardeners also use wovels to pat the earth down when they move their seedlings from place to place or work at planting seeds. Gardening is something many people dream of doing at some point during their lives. When you start your first garden you will be very tempted to purchase every gardening tool that you see in the gardening shops. It will all seem useful. The smart thing to do is to start your tool collection with a few items that are useful in gardens of all sizes. After that you should only buy new tools as they become useful to you. This is how you get all of the tools you need without wasting any money!
